NASS Steps In as NOUN Law Graduates Seek Access to Law School
The House of Representatives has intervened in the prolonged impasse over the admission of law graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) into the Nigerian Law School.
The intervention followed a petition submitted by affected graduates under the aegis of Backlog of Law Graduates of NOUN, who said more than 5,000 graduates are affected by the issue.
The petition, signed by the President, Dr. Adeniyi Oladele, and Secretary, Mr. Paschal Emeka Egerue, alleged that NOUN law graduates have consistently been denied admission into the Nigerian Law School, preventing them from proceeding to Bar training and qualifying for Call to Bar.
At an investigative hearing convened by the House Committee on Public Petitions, both NOUN and the Nigerian Law School were absent. However, the institutions submitted letters explaining their absence and requested new dates for the hearing.

The Committee subsequently adjourned further consideration of the petition to September 30, 2026.
The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi, who presented the petition on July 21, 2026, pledged support for a fair and lasting resolution to the matter.
