Ebony Herald International Magazine has nominated the News Editor of
LEADRRHIP newspaper, Dr. Sunday Isuwa, for its Distinguished Media Icon 2026 award in recognition of his contributions to digital journalism, media innovation and scholarly authorship.
The nomination, conveyed in a letter dated October 21, 2026, recognises Isuwa’s journalism career, academic achievements and contribution to the development of Nigeria’s newspaper industry.
He was nominated in the category of Excellence in Digital Journalism Innovation and Scholarly Authorship.
The award will be presented at the magazine’s Hall of Fame Award Ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at the National Merit Award House, Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja.

The ceremony will be held under the theme, “Nigeria’s Evolving Democracy: Insecurity and the Impact of Social Media”.
The letter, signed by the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Shalom A. Oludele, and Publisher, Lai Gidado, said the nomination followed an assessment of Isuwa’s contributions to journalism practice, media scholarship and digital innovation.

“Following a rigorous assessment of your outstanding contributions to journalism practice, media scholarship, and digital innovation in Nigeria’s newspaper industry, you have been selected for recognition,” the letter stated.
The magazine said Isuwa’s professional experience across several media organisations, coupled with his academic background, distinguished him for the honour.
His career spans Daily Times, Daily Trust, Pulse.ng and Leadership newspaper. He has also contributed to The New York Times as a freelance contributor.
Isuwa holds a PhD in Mass Communication and is preparing to publish a book titled Digital Shift in Nigeria’s Newspaper Industry, which the magazine described as a timely contribution to media development.
The organisers said the recognition formed part of activities marking the magazine’s 17th year of global print circulation and 16 years of online daily news reportage.
According to the letter, the management, staff and editorial board of the publication consider the promotion of productivity and professional excellence a civic responsibility and a means of advancing national development.
The magazine said it would dedicate special pages in its forthcoming anniversary publication to a feature interview or write-up highlighting Isuwa’s professional achievements, accompanied by photographs.
The feature, it added, would be unveiled at the award ceremony.
The annual recognition, which has been held since 2012, has honoured several prominent Nigerians from different professional backgrounds, including public service, business, traditional institutions and civil society.
The organisers also said several federal ministers, members of the National Assembly and other accomplished Nigerians had received honours at previous editions.
The 2026 ceremony is expected to bring together media professionals, public officials and other invited guests to celebrate individuals recognised for their contributions to national development.
The magazine said the event would provide an opportunity to spotlight professional accomplishments and encourage excellence across different sectors.
