Israel Heads for Possible Fresh Election as Political Blocs Fail to Secure Majority
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to remain in office in a caretaker capacity following the October 27, 2026, parliamentary election, which failed to produce a clear majority for any political bloc.
Preliminary results indicate that Netanyahu’s political bloc secured approximately 53 seats, while the opposition bloc, led by Gadi Eisenkot, won about 48 seats in Israel’s 120-member parliament, known as the Knesset.
Neither bloc has attained the 61-seat threshold required to form a majority government, leaving the country facing political uncertainty.
Arab-led parties are projected to control 19 seats, a development that could give them considerable influence in negotiations towards forming the next government.

Following the inconclusive election results, Israeli President Isaac Herzog is expected to begin consultations with political party leaders as efforts intensify to secure the support needed to establish a new administration.
However, if the ongoing negotiations fail to produce a workable governing coalition, Israel could be forced to conduct another parliamentary election.

The political stalemate means Netanyahu will continue overseeing government affairs in a caretaker capacity pending the outcome of negotiations and the formation of a new government.
