Alhaji Mouktar Lugga, Chief of Staff to Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Dauda Lawal, narrowly escaped death on Thursday evening, April 2, 2026, when suspected bandits opened fire on his convoy along the Funtua–Gusau highway.
A report by counter-terrorism expert Makama Zagazola indicated that the incident occurred around 6:16 p.m. near Kucheri village as Lugga was returning to Gusau from an official engagement.
According to the report, sources disclosed that the attackers emerged from both sides of the road and fired at the vehicle conveying the Chief of Staff, his driver, and two other occupants.
One of the bullets reportedly pierced the vehicle’s windshield and narrowly missed the driver, while another assailant attempted to shoot at close range but his weapon failed to discharge.
