The Nasarawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Dogo Shammah, has stated that the formation of the party is rooted in the desire of the people of Nasarawa to return power to the citizens.

The state chapter of the party, in a statement jointly signed by Chairman Comrade Dogo Shammah and Secretary Simon Osokunu, described the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a new political party built on the ideals of progressive democracy, grassroots empowerment, and accountable governance. The party, the statement noted, remains committed to promoting a strong agenda centered on youth empowerment, job creation, and harnessing the potential of the vibrant youth population through innovative skills acquisition programmes and entrepreneurship support.
According to the statement, the NDC is not just a political party but a movement for citizens who desire good governance, economic opportunities, and a future where their voices truly count.
“Our party is a new, people-focused political platform established in Nigeria, founded on the pillars of democracy, development, and service, with a commitment to promoting participatory governance and sustainable development for all citizens.
“The decision to establish the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is driven by a deep desire to return power to the people of Nigeria and Nasarawa State, with a strong belief in inclusive politics, tangible development, and unwavering integrity.
“The party, under my leadership, is committed to operating with the highest standards of discipline, internal democracy, and respect for the people,” the statement added.
The party also called on residents of the state to register, noting that the formal inauguration of the state executive committee and the unveiling of the party’s full manifesto will be announced in the coming weeks.
It will be recalled that the appointment of Comrade Dogo Shammah as the state chairman followed his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on March 31, 2026, marking a significant shift in the political landscape of the state.
His appointment to lead the affairs of the party in Nasarawa State was ratified during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
In a related development, the party, in a letter of introduction signed by Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe and Barrister I. Kenna Enekwezu, confirmed that Comrade Dogo Shammah has been appointed as the pioneer State Chairman of the NDC in Nasarawa State.
“His appointment was ratified at our National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at our headquarters on March 25, 2026, and monitored by INEC.
“We write to formally introduce Hon. Dogo Shammah to your office as the State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nasarawa State. Kindly accord him the necessary support and cooperation. Please accept our warm regards,” the letter stated.
Meanwhile, the NDC has extended an open invitation to progressive-minded individuals, community leaders, and stakeholders across Nasarawa State who share in its vision of renewal to join the growing movement.
