Man Dies After Alleged Torture by So-Safe Operatives Following Family Dispute in Ogun

A man identified simply as Success has reportedly died from injuries allegedly sustained after being tortured by operatives of the Ogun State security outfit, So-Safe Corps, along Coca-Cola Road in the Oju-Ore area of the state.

According to information shared on Monday by Facebook page Ota Gossip, the incident followed an altercation between Success and his mother on Saturday. The page stated that Success’s mother reported the dispute to So-Safe officials, who subsequently took him into custody.
The report alleged that instead of handing Success over to the police, the operatives took him to an uncompleted building where he was subjected to torture. The Facebook post stated that the incident began after a misunderstanding involving Success, his mother and his younger brother at their residence, during which he reportedly sustained a head injury and was seen bleeding.
The post further claimed that after the mother contacted the security outfit, So-Safe operatives were invited to intervene and later took Success away from the area. It added that eyewitness accounts and videos circulating online suggested he was allegedly taken to an abandoned building in the Oju-Ore axis and physically assaulted. Another Facebook user, Temitope Adeniyi, also alleged that the operatives beat Success to death after taking him from the scene.
Confirming the incident in a telephone conversation with journalists on Monday, the spokesperson for the So-Safe Corps, Adegunwa Adegbuyi, said the officers involved had been handed over to the police. He condemned their actions, stating that they acted outside the outfit’s standard operating procedures.
Adegbuyi explained that the mother had called the outfit for intervention and some ad-hoc personnel responded. However, rather than reporting back through proper channels, they allegedly took the law into their own hands. He disclosed that once the matter came to the attention of the command, the first suspect was immediately handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, followed by a second suspect a few hours later.
According to him, the command does not tolerate human rights abuses and is working closely with the police to ensure justice is served. He added that the So-Safe Commander, Soji Ganzalo, has repeatedly warned personnel against violating human rights or interfering in civil matters.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, had not responded to inquiries on the matter as of the time the report was filed. (Source: The PUNCH)
