Social media erupts after Father Mbaka defends Tinubu over insecurity concerns and references Jonathan’s era while discussing the Oyo school kidnapping.
Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has come under criticism from many Nigerians after absolving President Bola Tinubu of responsibility for the country’s insecurity challenges.
Critics have pointed to his past comments during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, when he blamed the government for insecurity ahead of the 2015 elections that brought the APC to power.GWG.ng reports that Mbaka recently argued that insecurity could be manipulated to turn public opinion against political leaders. According to him:
“If they want to overthrow Tinubu, it is not by kidnapping our children so that the whole of Nigeria will be angry against the president. That was what they did against Jonathan.”
The cleric maintained that responsibility for addressing the recent kidnapping of schoolchildren in Oyo State rests largely with the state government.
“Governor Makinde should do everything within his power to ensure the release of these children. Stop deceiving Nigerians by asking the President to come and find them,” he said.
Mbaka further stated that state governments receive substantial security votes and should therefore be held accountable for how such resources are utilized in combating insecurity within their territories. He emphasized that effective leadership requires decisive action rather than shifting blame between different levels of government.
His remarks quickly circulated across social media platforms, generating widespread reactions. While some Nigerians supported his position, many others questioned his consistency and past political interventions.
Among the reactions were:
