BREAKING: FCT Police neutralise two suspected bandits, rescue five kidnapped residents in joint security operation across Bwari communities.
The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the command headquarters on Wednesday.
He stated that he personally led the operation that resulted in the deaths of the suspected bandits.According to him, the operation was launched following the abduction of five residents of Paze community in Byazhin Ward of Bwari Area Council last week.
It will be recalled that five people, including a pastor, were reportedly kidnapped during an attack on Paze community on Thursday. During the invasion, a local vigilante member, identified as Shuaibu Yerima, was shot dead by the attackers.
CP Sanusi explained that the kidnapped victims were rescued during a coordinated operation involving operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT), and the Kubwa Area Command, working alongside local hunters and vigilante groups.
He said that at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, he led the joint security team in an intensive search, clearance and rescue mission across Paze and Byazhin communities.
The operation led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped into nearby hills.
The police commissioner added that security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles along with magazines during the operation, while two gang members were killed during an exchange of gunfire.
CP Sanusi further disclosed that the five rescued victims had been taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, adding that efforts were underway to reunite them with their families.
He noted that search operations are continuing in the affected areas and surrounding communities with the aim of apprehending the fleeing suspects and dismantling the criminal network.
The commissioner also urged healthcare workers, both in public and private hospitals, as well as members of the public, to promptly report anyone seeking treatment for gunshot wounds or presenting suspicious injury cases. (Daily Trust).
