Just IN :NIPSS Foils Fresh Night Attack, One Suspect Killed

Security operatives at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, on Wednesday night successfully repelled another attempted attack on the institution, killing one suspected assailant during a fierce exchange of gunfire.

The attackers reportedly attempted to gain access to the institute at about 11 p.m. but were confronted by security personnel on duty, leading to a gun battle.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Thursday, the Head of Public Affairs at NIPSS, Dr. Osime Samuel, said the attackers engaged security operatives but were forced to retreat following what he described as a swift and coordinated response by security forces.
According to the statement, one of the suspected attackers was killed during the encounter, while the others fled the scene.
The institute stated that the attackers failed to breach its security perimeter, assuring that all participants of the Senior Executive Course, staff, residents, and facilities remained safe.
“NIPSS wishes to reassure participants, staff, residents and the general public that the security of lives and property within the institute remains our highest priority,” the statement said.
It further disclosed that security agencies had intensified efforts to apprehend those behind the attack, while surveillance and other security measures had been strengthened within and around the institute.
NIPSS also commended the prompt response and professionalism of the security personnel who repelled the attack and urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary panic.
The latest incident comes just weeks after another reported attempt by armed men to gain access to the institute’s premises.
