Mbah backs NSIB probe, says safety comes first for Enugu Air.
The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has expressed support for the ongoing investigation into the runway excursion involving the state-owned airline, Enugu Air, insisting that passenger safety remains the airline’s top priority.
In a statement personally signed on Friday, Mbah commended the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) for promptly launching an investigation into the incident.
According to the governor, the Enugu State Government is fully aware of the runway excursion involving Enugu Air’s Embraer E170, Flight 4264, which was operating from Lagos to Benin on Thursday, July 23, 2026. He assured that the state government would ensure the airline gives its full cooperation to investigators and relevant regulatory authorities as the probe continues.
Mbah maintained that Enugu Air operates under strict safety standards, stressing that the airline’s corporate culture places safety above profit and operational schedules. He noted that its quality assurance and quality control systems exceed industry benchmarks, which he said has contributed to the growing confidence and patronage the airline enjoys from passengers and stakeholders.
The governor also appreciated Nigerians for the overwhelming support shown since the incident, saying many citizens had continued to share positive experiences about Enugu Air since its launch a year ago. He described the solidarity as encouraging and deeply appreciated by the state government.
The NSIB had earlier confirmed that it had commenced an investigation into the runway excursion involving the Enugu Air Embraer E170 at Benin Airport. The aircraft, operating as Flight 4264 with registration 5N-ENR from Lagos to Benin, overran the end of Runway 05 while landing at about 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The bureau confirmed that all 63 passengers and five crew members were accounted for, with no injuries reported. (Channels)
