NAF, IHRPS Deepen Partnership on Human Rights, Security
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the International Human Rights Protection Service (IHRPS) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening strategic collaboration in civil-military relations, human rights protection and humanitarian engagement.
The commitment was renewed during a high-level meeting at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Abuja, where an IHRPS delegation led by the Special Envoy for West Africa, Ambassador Charles Omini, met with representatives of the Chief of Air Staff.
The IHRPS delegation included the FCT Chairman, Dr. Igbinosa Ogbeide-Ihama; Director of Finance and Accounts, Ambassador Dr. Hadiza M. Umar; Head of the Economic Team for West Africa, Dr. Aisha Lawal; Director, Dr. Okise John I.; Head of Secretariat, Office of the Special Envoy, Ambassador Raphael Chukwujekwu; and Directors Hon. Ibrahim Maitama and Hon. John Okolo.
Discussions focused on strengthening civil-military cooperation, promoting and protecting human rights in line with international best practices, collaborating on humanitarian interventions and community engagement programmes, and establishing frameworks for continuous dialogue and capacity building.
Speaking during the meeting, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to professionalism, respect for human rights and constructive engagement with civil society organisations. Ambassador Charles Omini commended the Air Force leadership for its openness to collaboration and reiterated IHRPS’ mandate to promote and protect human rights across West Africa.
Dr. Igbinosa Ogbeide-Ihama expressed appreciation for the warm reception, noting that the partnership would further position IHRPS to support national security efforts while safeguarding the dignity and rights of citizens.
At the end of the meeting, both organisations agreed to establish a joint working framework to implement the resolutions reached, marking another step towards stronger cooperation in advancing security, human rights and humanitarian initiatives.
