Adamawa Judge Attacked in Courtroom, JUSUN Calls for Full Investigation

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Adamawa State Branch, has strongly condemned Monday’s attack on Honourable Dauda Hamman, a presiding Area Court Judge in Mayo-Ine, Fufore Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued by the Union’s Chairman, Comrade Fxenty Sanda Jonathan, who is also the National Financial Secretary of JUSUN, the attack was described as “barbaric, inhumane, heinous, unacceptable and an assault on the Nigerian legal system and constituted authorities.”

According to the statement, the judge was attacked by armed men suspected to be connected to a case before him and was allegedly macheted while performing his constitutional duties in the courtroom.

“An arbiter of justice performing his constitutional duties as a judge should not be descended upon by armed men and macheted helplessly.

This is unacceptable,” the statement read.
The Union called on the government and relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible for the attack are arrested and brought to justice to face the full wrath of the law within the shortest possible time.

JUSUN also urged the authorities to provide adequate security for magistrates and Area Court judges working in remote areas to ensure their safety and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

Meanwhile, the Union appealed to its members to remain calm, assuring them that both the Union and security agencies are working within the confines of the law to track down those responsible for the attack.

When contacted, the spokesman for the Adamawa State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Suleiman Nguroje, said the Command had yet to be officially briefed on the incident at the time of filing this report.

However, he disclosed that the Command had activated signals and heightened surveillance to facilitate swift action on the matter.
