NDC: Presidential, VP Tickets Were Free, No Money Exchanged

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has denied allegations of illegal payments, favouritism and the sale of party tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party made its position known in a statement issued in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.

According to the statement, all donations, levies and contributions from aspirants, members and stakeholders were paid directly into the party’s designated account and managed by the appropriate party organs.

The party explained that, as a new political organisation without elected public office holders, it was required to mobilise resources to establish its structures and prepare adequately for the 2027 elections.

It stressed that its National Leader neither demanded nor received money from any aspirant for personal use, adding that there had been no record of him soliciting funds from anyone since the formation of the party.

The NDC described claims that its party tickets were sold as false, stating that the presidential and vice-presidential tickets were offered free of charge based on the quality of the candidates.

The statement further maintained that the party’s financing model was based on donations, levies and contributions from members, stakeholders and well-wishers, rather than funds from government treasuries.

It assured that a full account of its finances would be rendered in line with the Electoral Act and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The party challenged anyone claiming to have paid money to individuals outside its designated account to provide evidence, warning that it would not protect anyone found culpable.

The NDC described the allegations as a deliberate campaign of misinformation aimed at damaging the reputation of the party and its leadership as it continues to gain wider acceptance across the country.

It urged the media and the public to disregard what it called false narratives, assuring that the party remained committed to transparency, due process and justice in its operations.

The party also disclosed that its leadership was considering legal action against those responsible for spreading the allegations.
