Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has described the killing of residents of Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area as genocide.

The governor made the statement on Wednesday night while speaking at the palace of the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Omar, following the attack carried out by bandits on Tuesday evening.
Governor Abdulrazaq said the villagers were murdered because they refused to submit to indoctrination by the attackers.
He also disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of a battalion of soldiers under Operation Savannah Shield to flush out bandits operating in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and the National Park in Borgu, Niger State.
The governor, who was accompanied by top security chiefs during the visit, assured residents that bandits operating within the two states would be eliminated within one month.
Also speaking during the visit, the Emir of Kaiama, who was visibly emotional, said no fewer than 75 villagers in Woro community were massacred for refusing to be brainwashed and indoctrinated by the bandits, who were preaching un-Islamic teachings.
He explained that the villagers’ refusal led to sporadic shootings, adding that two vehicles belonging to the village head were allegedly used by the attackers to transport many of the abducted residents.
Tribune reports that an unconfirmed number of people were abducted during the attack, while several others were still missing as of press time.
