Passengers Escape Death as Abuja–Kaduna Train Derails, Several Injured

Several passengers were injured on Monday after a train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed following a reported collision along the route.


The incident was confirmed by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa.

He disclosed that the train was involved in the accident near Asham while on its journey.

Opeifa explained that although a number of passengers sustained injuries, no deaths had been recorded at the time the report was filed.
He added that the injured passengers were taken back to Idu Train Station in Abuja, where they were receiving medical treatment.
The NRC Managing Director also revealed that the railway corporation has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment.
“It is confirmed that our Abuja–Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Passengers were injured while an investigation is ongoing into the exact cause of the incident,” he said.
