Violence broke out across Oyo State on Saturday as suspected political thugs targeted local government congresses organized by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Several party members were injured, and property was destroyed during the coordinated attacks.
Reports also indicate that the residence of former deputy governor Hazeem Gbolarumi in Ibadan was stormed by suspected thugs, with property vandalized, further escalating tensions within the party. Sources close to Gbolarumi said he and his aides narrowly escaped the attack.
Eyewitnesses and party insiders revealed that the hoodlums attacked multiple congress venues, assaulting participants and damaging vehicles in what appeared to be an orchestrated effort to disrupt the exercises.
Abdulrahman Akinoso, chairman of the Wike-aligned PDP faction in Oyo, confirmed the incidents, citing attacks in Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Akinyele, and Igboora in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area. He reported that at least ten people were injured, and several vehicles were destroyed.
Akinoso added that three vehicles were vandalized at Gbolarumi House on Are Avenue, Bodija, where faction members had gathered for the congress. The attacks have intensified factional tensions as rival groups vie for control of the PDP’s structure in the state.
