Why Rivers Assembly Rejects Four Commissioner Nominees Submitted by Governor Fubara
The Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected four commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The nominees appeared before the Assembly for screening on Monday during plenary at the State Assembly complex in Port Harcourt.
After the screening exercise, the lawmakers confirmed five nominees: Mr. Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr. Peters Nwagor, Mr. Lekue Kenneth, and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
However, four nominees were not approved by the Assembly. They are Professor Datonye Alasia, Mrs. Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, and Otonye TKD Amachree.
According to the Assembly, Professor Alasia was rejected over what lawmakers described as “poor performance.” Alasia previously served as Chairman of the Chief Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).
Otonye TKD Amachree was also rejected after more than 11 petitions were reportedly submitted against him by members of his community regarding his involvement in community-related matters.
Mrs. Deemua failed to secure confirmation after she was unable to present her tax clearance documents during the screening process.
Tamuno Williams, meanwhile, was stepped down by the Assembly over allegations that he had “misled the public about the activities of the Assembly.”
