Five dead, three wounded as attackers storm hunters’ office in Kaduna

At least five people, including a student, have lost their lives, while three others were injured following a night attack by unidentified gunmen on a hunters’ office in Gidan Waya community, located in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The victims were members of the Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS), Gidan Waya Command.
The Command’s Intelligence Officer, Mr. Gaji Ampot, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the scene.
According to Ampot, the attackers invaded the office from two different directions at about 8 p.m. and opened fire on the personnel who were on duty.
“One of the gunmen came on a motorcycle from one side, while others approached on foot from the opposite direction and started shooting.
“All but one of those killed were our personnel. The fifth victim was a student who had come to the office to resolve an issue,” he said.
He further disclosed that the injured victims had been taken to a hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
A resident of the area, who preferred to remain anonymous, suggested that the attack might be connected to the NFSS personnel’s efforts in tackling banditry in the community.
At the scene of the incident, bloodstains could be seen, while residents gathered in small groups discussing the tragic event.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that although Gidan Waya and surrounding areas had previously experienced frequent attacks, the community had recently enjoyed a period of relative peace before this incident.
