Police launch manhunt after vigilante shoots girlfriend dead, attacks two in Abia community
The Abia State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a local vigilante member accused of shooting his girlfriend dead, stabbing her sister, and shooting another man in Amakama, Ubakala, in Umuahia South Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday. She said the command received a report of an incident at Umuanga Amakama Community involving a suspect identified as Chinedu Anamelechi, who allegedly shot and killed Ezinne Ariwodo, stabbed her sister, and also shot another young man in the area.
According to her, police operatives immediately responded to the report and rushed to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of the victim lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds.
She added that the injured victims were promptly rescued and taken to the hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Chinaka further stated that the deceased was confirmed dead by medical personnel, and her body has been deposited in the morgue for preservation and autopsy. She noted that exhibits recovered from the scene have been taken for analysis.
The police spokesperson said calm has since returned to the community and advised residents against taking the law into their own hands.
She also confirmed that investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the suspect.
