ADC Convention: Kachikwu Calls for Unity, Practical Solutions Ahead of 2027 Elections

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Dumebi Kachikwu, has pledged to run an issue-based campaign centred on national unity, economic revival, and inclusive governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the ADC convention in Abuja, Kachikwu stated that Nigeria was passing through a critical phase in its history and required courageous leadership capable of tackling insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, and social disunity.
He expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates, and supporters for the confidence placed in him, describing his emergence as both a call to service and a sacrifice for national interest.
According to him, leadership should not merely be about occupying positions of authority but should reflect responsibility, accountability, and genuine service to the people.
“For too long, politics has benefited only a few while the majority of Nigerians continue to suffer. That must change,” he said.
Kachikwu noted that the ADC remained committed to rebuilding public trust and restoring hope through policies driven by competence, merit, and patriotism rather than ethnicity or political favoritism.
He stressed that elections should focus on ideas and workable solutions instead of campaigns built on division, identity politics, and empty promises.
The ADC presidential candidate also challenged political actors to present Nigerians with clear economic blueprints, including plans for production, job creation, industrialisation, and sustainable development.
Kachikwu further advocated increased inclusion of women and youths in governance, noting that no modern society could progress while sidelining vital segments of its population from decision-making processes.
He urged Nigerians not to lose hope despite prevailing challenges, assuring that responsible leadership and collective commitment could reposition the country towards growth and prosperity.
Also speaking, the National Chairman of the ADC, Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir, called for strict adherence to the party’s constitution and democratic principles amid the party’s internal crisis.
Bashir stated that no individual was greater than the party and warned against selfishness and injustice within political organisations, noting that such actions often create division and weaken party structures.
He reaffirmed the ADC’s resolve to provide constructive opposition in the country and appealed to aggrieved members to return and work collectively towards strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
Earlier, the BoT Chairman, Kingsley Ogga, described the convention as a defining moment for the party, saying the ADC had emerged stronger despite internal challenges and political turbulence.
Addressing delegates and stakeholders, Ogga said the convention represented “a statement of survival, resilience, unity, and hope” for the party and its members across the country.
According to him, many party members remained loyal despite pressures, intimidation, distractions, and internal disagreements, adding that their sacrifices had sustained the vision of building a credible political alternative for Nigerians.
Ogga stressed that unity, discipline, and sacrifice remained essential to the survival and growth of any political party and urged members to recommit themselves to fairness, accountability, inclusion, and mutual respect.
