Ayoola-Elegbeji Lists Achievements, Seeks Continued Support Ahead Of 2027
Rep. Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, representing Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has described her seven months in office as impactful and rewarding.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday, Ayoola-Elegbeji said her representation had led to the execution of several people-oriented projects aimed at improving the welfare of residents in Ogun State.
According to her, more than 11 infrastructure projects have been carried out across the constituency despite challenges linked to project implementation.
She explained that the projects include a solar lighting initiative in Ikenne Local Government Area, particularly within Ikenne town, as well as road construction works in Iwolo, Sagamu, alongside another solar lighting project.
The lawmaker added that completed projects also include the rehabilitation of health centres in Ibelefun and Ogijo, rural electrification on High Court Road (Oko-Ada Road) in Orile-Oko, Remo North Local Government Area, and the construction of a modern abattoir in Sagamu.
Ayoola-Elegbeji further disclosed that empowerment programmes for constituents would begin within the next two weeks, noting that contractors had already been contacted and were prepared to commence work.
She revealed that she personally financed the grading of roads in Ward 14, Sagamu, where erosion had badly affected the road network ahead of the rainy season.
According to her, the intervention became necessary because contractors had not been mobilised due to funding delays, prompting her to sponsor temporary repairs to make the roads accessible pending full reconstruction.
On legislative activities, the lawmaker said she had sponsored several bills and motions within the period under review.
Among the bills, she listed the establishment of the School of Nursing and Allied Professionals in Ode Lemo/Emuren, as well as the bill seeking the establishment and enhancement of the Federal College of Agricultural Sciences at Orile-Oko in Remo North LGA.
She also mentioned proposals for the creation of five additional local government areas within the Remo Federal Constituency and the creation of Ijebu-Remo State.
Ayoola-Elegbeji also highlighted motions she sponsored, including one calling for the rehabilitation of the deteriorating Ibere River Bridge in Emuren Town.
Other motions, she said, focused on the Ogijo lead poisoning crisis and the urgent need for pedestrian bridges along the ongoing Sagamu-Benin Expressway project.
Reflecting on the death of her predecessor, Adewunmi Onanuga, the lawmaker said the constituency lost several benefits after her passing.
She, however, assured constituents that efforts were ongoing to sustain Onanuga’s developmental initiatives.
Ayoola-Elegbeji disclosed that she personally sponsored ecological studies, which led to three projects being captured under the ecological fund.
The lawmaker appealed to stakeholders in Ogun State to support her aspiration for re-election into the 11th House of Representatives in 2027.
She stressed that remaining in office would enable her to monitor and ensure the completion of ongoing projects.
She also noted that during Ramadan and Easter celebrations, she distributed food palliatives to mosques and churches across the constituency.
In addition, she said coaching classes were organised for about 1,000 students as part of efforts to support education and youth development.
Ayoola-Elegbeji said the positive feedback from constituents, including videos and other evidence of appreciation, had encouraged calls for her to continue in office.
She expressed confidence that Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, would listen to the wishes of the people and the party structure regarding her political future.
The lawmaker also called for greater support for women in politics, noting the low number of female lawmakers in the National Assembly.
According to her, only about 12 women currently serve in the 360-member House of Representatives, while just three women are members of the Southwest caucus, with her being the only female representative from Ogun State.
She advocated continued support for female lawmakers already delivering effective legislative representation, saying experienced women legislators could mentor incoming female politicians.
Ayoola-Elegbeji described representing her constituents as a privilege and responsibility she deeply values and would never take for granted.
