Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has declared his intention to contest for the office of President under the grand alliance between the Allied Peoples Movement and the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general election.
Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during a mega rally organised by the APM and PDP at Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
The governor reiterated his support for a multi-party democratic system, noting that the country has experienced setbacks across various sectors.
According to him, Nigeria’s economy, as well as its social and political environment, has deteriorated due to what he described as poor leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Makinde also stated that Nigeria is too large for any individual or group to turn it into a one-party state, stressing that democracy remains the foundation of every sane society.
The rally attracted a large crowd from the South-West states, including Oyo State, Ondo State, Ogun State, Osun State, Ekiti State and Lagos State.
