HORROR:Bandits beheaded an abducted teacher from Oyo Community High School, while security operatives arrest six suspects linked to the kidnapping.
Bandits responsible for the recent attack on Oyo Community High School have reportedly killed one of the kidnapped teachers, identified as Michael Oyedokun.
The teacher was allegedly beheaded in a video released by the terrorists on Sunday. The footage, seen on Monday, showed the victim tied up and forced to speak before he was brutally killed.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased teacher and assured residents that the state government would continue efforts to rescue the remaining victims.
Olanrewaju stated that the government was deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to secure the release of those still being held by the abductors.
He also disclosed that six suspects connected to the kidnapping had been arrested so far.
The government spokesman further sympathised with the families of soldiers, Amotekun operatives, and local vigilantes who lost their lives during the rescue operation.
According to him, the security operatives died after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) allegedly planted by the kidnappers.
He added that injured operatives were responding positively to treatment, assuring that the government would provide all necessary support for their recovery.
Olanrewaju appealed to family members of the victims, religious organisations, and other concerned groups to remain patient, promising that efforts were ongoing to reunite the abducted teachers with their families.
“So, please, there may not be quick fixes, but we will continue to push ourselves to the limit to resolve this quickly,” he said.
He explained that seven teachers were abducted during the attack, adding that one of them, believed to be the school’s mathematics teacher, was killed by the terrorists.
Governor Makinde also revealed that progress had been made in the investigation, with several individuals already arrested in connection with the incident.
“From the information available from the Commissioner of Police, about six individuals have been arrested within the locality.
“Some of them, we believe, may be informants or persons providing logistics support for the terrorists.
“Also, three individuals of interest have been arrested by another security outfit within the state,” he added.
