Panic at Abuja National Hospital as Fire Outbreak Forces Emergency Evacuation
A fire outbreak on Monday disrupted activities at the oncology department of the National Hospital Abuja, forcing the emergency evacuation of patients and medical personnel from the affected section.
The incident, reportedly caused by an electrical fault, was swiftly brought under control before it could spread to other parts of the hospital.
Patients receiving treatment at the oncology unit, including those undergoing chemotherapy and emergency care, were immediately moved to safer sections within the facility as a precaution.
Eyewitnesses at the hospital disclosed that the incident followed repeated power fluctuations in the department. According to sources, electricity supply in the unit had been unstable before it suddenly went off completely.
Moments later, a strong burning smell believed to have originated from electrical wiring was noticed, before smoke began spreading across the department.
Hospital staff promptly instructed patients and workers to evacuate the building, while those undergoing treatment were transferred to other units for continued medical attention.
Although no casualty was recorded, smoke reportedly lingered around the affected area for several hours, forcing hospital authorities to temporarily suspend operations in the oncology department.
Investigations have commenced to determine the exact cause of the fire, while hospital management confirmed that no injuries or deaths were recorded from the incident.
