Panic on Zamfara Highway as Gunmen Ambush Convoy, 10 Feared Dead
At least 10 persons have reportedly lost their lives after suspected bandits ambushed a convoy along the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road in Zamfara State.
Several others sustained injuries during the attack, while an unspecified number of passengers were allegedly abducted by the assailants.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred between 4pm and 5pm while vigilante operatives were escorting travellers along the route, which is regarded as one of the most dangerous highways in the state.
According to the witnesses, the attackers suddenly opened fire on the convoy, causing panic among passengers and members of the local security team.
Those reportedly killed included five traders, three local hunters and one member of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG).
The injured victims were initially rushed to Magami General Hospital for treatment before plans were made to transfer them to Gusau for further medical attention.
However, sources at the hospital disclosed that the victims remained stranded in Magami due to the absence of security escorts needed to ensure safe movement to Gusau.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident as insecurity continues to affect several communities across Zamfara State.(AriseNewsTv)
