Police Arrest “Bullet” Over Alleged Abduction, Rape in Awka
Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 30-year-old man, Okechukwu Chinweko, over his alleged involvement in the abduction and rape of a young woman in Awka, the state capital.
The suspect, popularly known as “Bullet,” was apprehended by officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, during an intelligence-led raid at a hideout in Umudike Community, Awka.
Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operation followed credible intelligence linking the suspect to serious criminal activities.
According to Ikenga, the suspect was arrested for alleged involvement in abduction, rape, and unlawful possession of firearms.
During the operation, police operatives recovered one locally fabricated Beretta pistol and eight rounds of live 9mm ammunition from the suspect.
The police spokesperson disclosed that preliminary investigations connected the suspect to an incident that occurred on May 2, 2026, when a female victim was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted before she was eventually rescued by police operatives.
He explained that the victim sustained varying degrees of injuries at the time of her rescue, while the suspect reportedly escaped from the scene before his eventual arrest.
Ikenga further revealed that the suspect bears a tattoo inscription reading “Bullet” on his arm, a nickname by which he is widely identified.
The Anambra State Police Command reassured residents of its determination to protect lives and property and ensure that criminals are brought to justice.
“The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice, no matter how long it takes,” the statement said in part.
The command added that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
