A tragic incident occurred in the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday morning when a three-storey building under construction collapsed in the Durumi 3 area near Gudu Market in Abuja, leaving at least five people feared dead while 10 others were rescued alive.

The building reportedly went down around the Gaduwa Estate axis in the Gudu district, triggering a swift emergency response as rescue teams rushed to the scene.
Operations continued into the afternoon as officials and responders worked tirelessly, with concerns that more victims could still be trapped beneath the rubble.
Personnel from the Federal Fire Service, medical teams, security agencies, and local volunteers were all involved in the search-and-rescue efforts aimed at evacuating survivors and recovering bodies.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with residents and relatives gathering anxiously at the site, hoping for any news about missing loved ones.
The Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, visited the scene of the collapse.
She disclosed that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had ordered that all injured victims receive free medical treatment, ensuring immediate care without financial burden.
Fasawe praised the rapid response of emergency workers and assured residents that the government remains committed to supporting victims and preventing similar disasters in the future.
As of Saturday afternoon, rescue operations were still ongoing, with heavy machinery deployed to clear debris from the collapsed structure.
Authorities warned that the death toll could still rise as more victims might be discovered under the rubble, while survivors were taken to nearby hospitals where medical personnel were placed on high alert.
