The Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Corps, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has disclosed that preparations are at an advanced stage for the mass wedding of 1,500 couples sponsored by the Kano State Government, with ₦1.

5 billion allocated for the programme.
Daurawa made this known while speaking with journalists in Kano on Monday. He explained that part of the preparations involves conducting premarital medical tests, including screenings for HIV, hepatitis, pregnancy, and genotype, among others.
According to him, approximately ₦1 million will be spent on each couple to provide household necessities such as beds, mattresses, bedsheets, pillows, furniture, and food items.
He further revealed that each bride will receive a dowry of ₦100,000, while another ₦100,000 will be provided as seed capital to support small-scale business ventures after the wedding.
Daurawa stated, “Mass wedding was one of the promises made to the people of Kano by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during his election campaign, and he has now fulfilled it.
“The governor has approved ₦1.5 billion for 1,500 couples, with each couple benefiting from about ₦1 million meant for furniture, food items and empowerment.”
The Hisbah Commander-General also said the Corps has informed intending couples about a guiding rule discouraging divorce without first involving the Hisbah Board.
He advised prospective couples to undergo genotype testing before marriage to avoid the risks associated with giving birth to children affected by sickle cell anaemia.
Daurawa added that the date for the mass wedding ceremony would be announced after receiving approval from Governor Yusuf.
