Osogbo Residents Nab Suspected Bandit Wearing Army Trousers, Amotekun Uniform Near Government House
● Suspect in police custody as CID investigates health status, identity
Residents of Osogbo on Wednesday apprehended a man suspected to be a bandit and handed him over to the police after discovering that he was wearing Nigerian Army trousers and an Amotekun uniform beneath his vest.
The suspect was arrested at Okefia, near the Government House along Ilobu Road. Eyewitnesses said the man was intercepted by residents before being taken into police custody. A video circulating on social media showed police officers transporting the suspect to the Area Command.
Police: Suspect Appears Unstable
The spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the police headquarters in Osogbo for further investigation.
According to Ojelabi, the suspect was also wearing about three additional shirts underneath his vest at the time of his arrest.
“The suspect does not appear to be a normal person, but police have initiated processes to confirm his health status,” Ojelabi said.
He explained that the police would carry out a discreet investigation to determine both the suspect’s identity and his mental and physical condition.
Arrest Raises Security Concerns
The arrest, which occurred close to the Government House, has sparked concerns over possible impersonation of security personnel and the movement of suspicious individuals within Osogbo.
The development comes amid growing anxiety over banditry threats in Osun State and neighbouring states.
However, the police have not established any connection between the suspect and any ongoing kidnapping incidents or attacks within the state.
