Safety First: NYSC Bars Corps Members from 3 Kebbi LGAs
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has blacklisted three local government areas in Kebbi State from receiving corps members due to security concerns.
The Kebbi State NYSC Coordinator, Bala Dabo Kagarko, disclosed this while speaking with journalists at the temporary NYSC Orientation Camp in Basura, Jega Local Government Area.
According to him, corps members will no longer be posted to Augie, Arewa and Sakaba local government areas of the state.
“For the safety of corps members, we are not posting them to Augie, Arewa and Sakaba local government areas of the state again,” he said.
Kagarko also explained that the NYSC requested the relocation of its orientation camp from Dakingari to the temporary camp in Basura, Jega Local Government Area, because of the prevailing security situation.
He expressed concern over the sharp decline in the number of corps members posted to Kebbi State.
“We no longer have doctors to post to the state hospitals, not enough corps members to post to schools and other areas where they are needed to contribute to the development of the state,” he stated.
The coordinator further revealed that Kebbi now records the lowest number of corps members in the country.
“Kebbi now has the least number of corps members in the country. Several appeals have been made to the right quarters, but we are yet to get their response,” he added. (Daily Trust).
