The Kogi State Government has commenced the clearance of an illegal trailer park located at New Zango, Abobo, in Okehi Local Government Area, as part of efforts aimed at tackling crime and improving public safety across the state.

The operation was led by the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), who disclosed that the action followed credible intelligence reports indicating that the area had become a hideout for criminal elements, a centre for drug peddling, and a base for other unlawful activities.
According to Omodara, the exercise was carried out by a joint security team comprising personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and other security agencies. The operation resulted in the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of various illegal substances and hard drugs.
He explained that the exercise is in line with the state government’s renewed campaign against crime following the recent inauguration of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Omodara noted that operatives of the unit worked alongside other security agencies to secure and evacuate the area.
The State Security Adviser emphasized that the location was never officially designated as a trailer park and confirmed that all trailers occupying the site have been evacuated.
He further revealed that the clearance operation would be followed by the demolition of structures identified as suspected hideouts for criminal activities.
Reaffirming the commitment of Governor Ododo’s administration to safeguarding lives and property, Omodara stated that security remains a top priority for the government.
He also commended residents for providing timely and credible intelligence that assisted security agencies in carrying out the operation successfully.
Omodara recalled that the state government had earlier issued warnings and directed the evacuation of the illegal trailer park, noting that the ongoing exercise is simply the enforcement of those directives.
