Lawyer and public affairs analyst, Frank Tietie, has questioned the Federal Government’s priorities in tackling security challenges following the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of kidnappers.

Tietie made the remarks during an interview on Arise News on Sunday, June 14, 2026, while reacting to the circumstances surrounding the death of the retired senior military officer.
Speaking on the incident, the lawyer compared the Federal Government’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State with what he described as an insufficient response to the worsening insecurity that has resulted in the loss of many lives across the country.
“You could declare a state of emergency in Rivers State because Wike’s interest was threatened. And then people have died to the extent that your own General was killed in that manner,” Tietie said.
According to him, the death of the retired military officer underscores the seriousness of the nation’s security crisis and raises concerns about whether adequate attention is being given to the threats posed by kidnappers and other criminal elements. He maintained that the government should demonstrate the same level of urgency in addressing insecurity as it has shown in resolving political disputes.
Tietie further noted that the killing of a retired major general by kidnappers sends a disturbing signal to Nigerians, many of whom already feel exposed amid increasing cases of abduction and violent crime.
