Benue Police Arrest Seven More Over MACBAN Chairman’s Killing
The Benue State Police Command has arrested an 80-year-old man, Sylvester Ajonye, four traditional chiefs and two other suspects over the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed.
The traditional rulers arrested are Chief Morgan Ejaga, 43; Chief Moses Anteyi, 45; Chief John Ogli, 58; and Chief Yawuhu Adaji, 49.
The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet. She said the latest arrests followed sustained intelligence gathering, thorough investigations and ongoing tactical operations by the command.
According to the statement, the additional seven suspects were apprehended during intelligence-led operations as investigations into the killing of the MACBAN chairman and Yakubu Isah continue.
Edet said the Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended the professionalism and dedication of the investigating and tactical teams, noting that their sustained efforts had continued to produce positive results.
The police commissioner assured residents that investigations were still ongoing and vowed that everyone found to have played a direct or indirect role in the killings would be identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and continue providing credible and timely information to the police and other security agencies to support the investigation.
Nwadiogbu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims while maintaining peace, law and order across Benue State.
Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed was killed on June 26 after attending a peace meeting in Ohinmini Local Government Area. He and his associate, Yakubu Isah, were attacked and killed around Okukwu in Otukpo Local Government Area while returning from the meeting.
