Nigeria takes its seat at the ECOWAS table as Shettima represents Tinubu in Freetown.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The trip was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha. According to the statement, Shettima will join heads of state, ministers, senior government officials and business leaders from across West Africa at the summit taking place at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown.
The summit is expected to consider key policy decisions and strategic resolutions aimed at strengthening peace, security, democratic governance, economic growth and regional integration across the West African sub-region. It will also deliberate on trade, infrastructure and sustainable development as member states seek to deepen regional cooperation and address shared political and economic challenges.
The statement added that the Vice President will return to Abuja after concluding his official engagements in Sierra Leone.
