FCT : 2 Men Jailed For Assaulting FRSC Personnel
A Magistrate Court in Bwari, Abuja, has sentenced two men to six months in a non-custodial facility for assaulting a marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC during patrol.
The court, presided over by Magistrate John Akweke, delivered the judgement after both suspects pleaded guilty to the offences.
The court also ordered the suspects to replace the marshal’s damaged mobile phone and torn uniform.
In his remarks, Magistrate Akweke expressed concern over the suspects’ conduct towards a law enforcement officer but said the court considered the efforts of their parents and the remorse shown by the suspects in tempering justice with mercy.
The magistrate said the judgement should serve as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar acts against law enforcement officers.
He stressed the need for respect for constituted authority and personnel carrying out their lawful duties.
The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Correctional Service and court officials for implementation of the judgement.
