FG Declares August 25 Public Holiday for Eid ul Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.


The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government in Abuja and extended warm felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora.

According to him, Eid ul Mawlid provides an opportunity to pause and reflect on lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to humanity.
He said the celebration should also be used for collective prayers for peace and national cohesion, stressing that maintaining unity remains a shared responsibility.
Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to celebrate with restraint and mutual respect, while wishing the Muslim community a joyous and peaceful Eid.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to protecting lives and property across the country and ensuring that peace is sustained at all times.
