FRSC Corps Marshal Tasks Personnel on Professionalism

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, has urged Marshals to be professional in their conduct and security-conscious while on operations.

Mallam Shehu Mohammed who stated this while addressing the opening of a two-day training for 500 Marshals of Zone 7 in Abuja said the capacity-building programme was part of the Corps’ deliberate efforts to strengthen the professionalism and operational effectiveness of frontline personnel.

According to him, the Corps must ensure that every Marshal possesses the knowledge, skills, attitude and discipline required to provide quality road safety services to the motoring public.

He said Marshals are the face of the FRSC on the road and must conduct themselves professionally, communicate effectively, enforce the law, resolve conflicts and respond appropriately to members of the public, as their conduct directly influences public confidence in the Corps.

He stressed that traffic management is not limited to apprehending offenders but involves understanding traffic situations, identifying risks, managing congestion, preventing crashes and taking decisions that protect lives and property.

“Our mandate is fundamentally life-saving, and every action taken by a Marshal on the road can have consequences for human life.”

In a remark, the Administrator, National Judicial Institute, Justice Babatunde Adejumo, advised Marshals to always prioritise their safety and stop jumping in front of vehicles to arrest traffic offenders.

He pointed out that their attitude towards the motoring public speaks volumes about the image of the Corps.

Justice Babatunde Adejumo also emphasised the need to improve the welfare of Marshals to boost their confidence and enhance their performance.

He commended the current leadership of the Corps for prioritising workforce capacity-building, saying it would help bring about sanity on the roads.

The two-day training is for Marshals in Zone 7 Command, comprising the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, with the theme, Repositioning Marshals for Effective Service Delivery.
