The Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Federal Capital Territory Chapter, has mourned the passing of legendary Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs at the age of 84, describing his death as a monumental loss to Nollywood and African cinema.

According to a press statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by Desmond Utomwen, Chairman of the AMP-FCT Chapter, Jacobs was a titan of the African screen whose contributions to the growth and international recognition of the Nigerian film industry were immeasurable.

Utomwen noted that the veteran actor, fondly called “Uncle Olu” by colleagues and admirers, captivated audiences for decades with his commanding screen presence, distinctive voice, exceptional diction and remarkable acting talent.

He described Jacobs as more than an accomplished actor, stressing that he was a distinguished mentor and father figure to many and a trailblazer who helped lay a solid foundation for the thriving Nigerian film industry.

The AMP-FCT chairman said the actor’s passing had created an irreplaceable void in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. He added, however, that Jacobs’ legacy would remain alive through his timeless body of work and the numerous filmmakers, producers and actors he inspired, supported and mentored throughout his illustrious career.

“His transition leaves an irreplaceable void in the Nigerian entertainment landscape. However, we take solace in the fact that his legacy has been immortalised through his outstanding body of work and the countless industry practitioners he nurtured and inspired,” the statement said.
