PDP Fires Up Benue South Ahead of 2027, Flags Off Abba Moro’s Campaign

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has officially commenced its 2027 campaign in the Benue South Senatorial District, with a massive turnout of supporters at the flag-off ceremony held in Otukpo.
The party described the large crowd as a demonstration of renewed support for the PDP and the people’s desire for purposeful representation, accountable leadership and meaningful development.
Speaking at the ceremony, former Governor of Benue State and PDP leader, Chief Samuel Ortom, said the gathering went beyond politics, describing it as an expression of unity, hope and determination.
Ortom urged party members and residents of Benue South to remain united and vote for Senator Abba Moro and other PDP candidates in the 2027 general elections.
“This election is an opportunity to choose credible leadership, progress, accountability, and meaningful development.
“Let us stand united, support our candidates, and cast our votes for the party that represents our collective hopes and aspirations,” he said.
The PDP candidate for Benue South Senatorial District and incumbent Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, said his bid for another term was not merely an attempt to retain his seat but a renewed commitment to the people of the district.
Moro criticised the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia, alleging that it had failed the people of Benue South.
He challenged the state government to provide concrete evidence of its achievements over the past three years, including factual figures on funds that had accrued to the state treasury and how they had been utilised.
Moro also highlighted his legislative record, saying he had sponsored about 16 bills and moved 16 motions on the floor of the National Assembly.
According to him, he had also attracted projects to the nine local government areas in Benue South, alongside other interventions.
He expressed confidence that the people of Zone C would support his re-election bid and other PDP candidates in the 2027 elections.
The PDP governorship candidate in the state, Chief Michael Aondoakaa, SAN, also called on the people of Benue to unite behind the party’s candidates.
Aondoakaa urged voters to support the PDP, describing it as a team committed to good governance, accountability, development and progress.
In his opening remarks, the PDP State Chairman, Ezekiel Adaji, commended Ortom, Moro, Aondoakaa, members of the campaign organisation, National and State Assembly candidates, volunteers, traditional rulers and community stakeholders for their participation.
Adaji said their presence and solidarity had strengthened the party’s resolve to run an issue-based, peaceful and inclusive campaign focused on the interests of the people.
He described the turnout as a strong indication that the PDP was prepared for the 2027 elections, urging members to work together to build a stronger political movement and secure better representation and opportunities for the people.
The party chairman subsequently presented flags to four National Assembly candidates and 11 State House of Assembly candidates, including the PDP senatorial candidates for Benue North-West and Benue North-East, Mrs Eunice Ortom and Thomas Unongo, respectively.
