FRSC Warns Commercial Drivers Against Acts That Endanger Lives
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has urged fleet operators and commercial drivers to embrace responsible transportation, adhere to permissible loading limits and avoid practices that endanger lives.
The Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, made the appeal while addressing transport union leaders and commercial drivers during the Ember Months campaign at Nyanya Central Motor Park in Abuja urging them to cooperate with the FRSC in tackling the persistent problem of overloading across the country.
Speaking on the theme, “Overloading and Mix-Loading: A Dangerous Trend to Avoid,” Mallam Shehu Mohammed said the campaign was necessary to reinforce the Corps’ commitment to reducing road crashes through sustained public education and collaboration with stakeholders.
Represented by the Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Operations, Godwin Omiko, the Corps Marshal assured the public that the FRSC would sustain enforcement and promote compliance with traffic regulations to prevent avoidable crashes and save lives.

According to him, mix-loading poses serious risks, particularly when incompatible or hazardous materials are transported together, cargo is improperly arranged, or loads are inadequately secured.
He challenged the leadership of Nyanya Central Terminal Motor Park and the relevant transport unions to translate the message of the rally into practical action.

” Let this park become a model of responsible transportation, where unsafe loads are rejected, passenger capacity is respected, and drivers and loading officials understand that protecting lives is a shared obligation.”
“The success of this rally will not be measured by the number of people gathered here today, but by the dangerous practices we abandon, the unsafe loads we reject and the lives we save. Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come to abandon the mentality that a little extra cargo cannot cause serious harm.”
He also urged them to reject the culture of prioritising immediate financial gain over human safety as the Corps would continue to educate, persuade and enforce compliance.
In their separate goodwill messages, transport union leaders pledged their support for the FRSC’s initiatives to curb traffic violations and assured the Corps of their commitment to promoting compliance with traffic rules and regulations.
