The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to adhere strictly to safety standards and desist from using worn-out or substandard tyres.

The Deputy Corps Education Officer, Ohaeri Osondu, gave the warning during a Special Easter Mega Rally held across major motor parks in Abuja. He expressed concern over the rising incidents of reckless driving on highways.
He noted that many road accidents are caused by poor driving attitudes and inadequate vehicle maintenance. He also called on transport union leaders to partner with the FRSC in efforts to save lives and ensure safer roads for socio-economic activities.
Osondu identified key risk factors contributing to road crashes, including the use of mobile phones while driving, lane indiscipline, overloading, excessive speeding, and the consumption of alcohol by drivers. He added that the awareness rally would be conducted nationwide to educate road users on proper traffic management.
Speaking on the theme, “Drive Responsibly, Celebrate Peaceful Easter 2026: Road Safety Awareness,” he urged passengers to report drivers who violate traffic rules and regulations.
“The Corps is focusing this campaign on the dangers of using worn-out and substandard tyres,” he said.
He further reminded passengers of their right to report unsafe driving through the FRSC toll-free number 122 for prompt intervention.
Osondu assured the public that the Corps would continue its awareness campaigns and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders to reduce road accidents across the country.
