Police Rescue Mentally Challenged Woman, Newborn in Kwali

The FCT Police Command has rescued a mentally challenged woman and her newborn baby in Kwali Area Council.


According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, in Abuja, the incident occurred in the early hours of April 3, 2026, when officers on patrol found the woman shortly after she gave birth to a baby girl by the roadside in Kwaita Village.
The statement notes that the Gender Unit responded promptly, taking both mother and child to General Hospital, Kwali, where they received medical care and were later discharged in stable condition.
It adds that the mother and her baby were subsequently handed over to the Kwali Area Council welfare authorities and relocated to the FCT Children’s Home in Wako, Gwagwalada, for proper care and support.
The statement further highlights that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, commended the officers for their swift response, compassion, and professionalism.
It also urges members of the public to remain vigilant, show empathy, and promptly report emergencies to security agencies.
