Tragedy in Anambra as 80-Year-Old Igwe Aspirant Dies After Alleged Police Assault
An 80-year-old Igwe aspirant, Paul Onwualu, has reportedly died in Anambra State after an alleged assault during his arrest in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area.
Family sources disclosed that policemen said to be attached to the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja, accompanied by some political opponents, stormed Onwualu’s residence in Umusiome Nkpor last Thursday over an ongoing Igweship dispute.
According to a source, the elderly man was allegedly beaten, forced into a police vehicle, and taken towards Ogidi Police Station. He reportedly collapsed on the way and was rushed to Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital, Ogidi, where doctors confirmed him dead.
His wife, Anthonia Onwualu, alleged that the officers scaled the fence into their compound before attacking her husband and taking him away.
“I was later informed that he died on the way to the station,” she said.
The Igweship dispute involving the deceased is currently before an Ogidi High Court in Suit No. HID/72/2026.
Efforts to get a reaction from the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The report was culled from NEWS EXPRESS.
