Family of abducted young police officer appeals for urgent intervention as captors hold her in Delta forest.
A 21-year-old police officer, Peace Banshuam Otu, has been abducted in the Obuluku area of Delta State, with her captors demanding a ₦20 million ransom for her release.
Otu, who was recently recruited into the Nigeria Police Force and posted to Delta State, was reportedly kidnapped on May 10, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m. while riding on a motorcycle operated by Kenneth Chijioke. According to family sources, the rider escaped from the scene and immediately raised the alarm.
The family disclosed that as of May 12, the young officer was being held in a forest along the Obuluku road and had briefly communicated with them.
Her sister, Anah Susan Ada-Otu, described the situation as deeply painful and emotionally draining for the family.
“It is very devastating, heartbreaking, and frustrating. It’s just too much for the family, and for me in particular. Combining this with postpartum has not been easy at all,” she lamented.
Peace Otu hails from Baffin Village in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State. The family explained that her father is late, while her mother is currently battling a stroke-related illness, making it impossible for them to raise the ransom being demanded.
They have therefore appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, and other security agencies to urgently intervene and secure her safe release.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Reports indicate that efforts to get a response from the command were still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
