An FCT High Court has remanded a 40-year-old law student of the University of Abuja, Monday Goodluck, at the Kuje Correctional Centre over allegations of raping a 100-level Medicine and Surgery student.

Justice M.S. Idris gave the order on Wednesday after declining an oral bail application presented by defence counsel, Samson Francis. The judge instructed the defence to file a written bail application and serve it on the prosecution. The matter was subsequently adjourned until June 9 for further hearing.
Goodluck was arraigned by the police on a two-count charge bordering on alleged rape and causing physical injury. According to the prosecution counsel, Alexander Agbo, the defendant allegedly assaulted the student at his residence around 11 p.m. on March 25 after allegedly deceiving her with claims of helping her secure a NELFUND loan.
The prosecution further alleged that the defendant inflicted physical injuries on the victim and attempted to silence her by forcing his fingers into her mouth.
The alleged offences are punishable under Sections 1 and 2 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
