While some of the entertainers publicly disclosed their battles with the disease, others kept their health struggles away from the public until their deaths. The increasing number of cancer-related deaths among celebrities has continued to spark discussions among Nigerians online.
Among the most recent and shocking cases is the reported death of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo.
According to reports, Alex Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, following complications arising from kidney cancer.

3. Ify Onwuemene
“Everyday People” actress Ify Onwuemene died on May 25, 2021, after battling stage 4 endometrial cancer for several years.
She reportedly underwent multiple chemotherapy sessions and also had her womb removed before her death.

Popular Nollywood actress Aishat Abimbola, widely known as Omoge Campus, died in Canada on May 15, 2018, after battling breast cancer.
5. Doris Chima
Veteran actress Doris Chima reportedly died in August 2021 from complications linked to breast cancer.
Her death was confirmed by the then Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Lagos chapter, Emeka Rising.
6. Karibi Fubara
Nollywood actor Karibi Fubara died in December 2021 after battling kidney cancer.
He had previously undergone surgery in 2020 to remove a large kidney tumour.

Popular gospel singer Aduke Gold reportedly died from cervical cancer on August 11, 2024, at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
10. Sound Sultan
Veteran Nigerian musician Olanrewaju Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan, died in the United States on July 11, 2021, at the age of 44.
He reportedly battled a rare form of blood cancer known as Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma before his death.
