“It’s a Job, Not Pleasure” — Soso Opens Up on Onscreen Kissing

Nollywood actress and content creator, Sophia Chisom, popularly known as Soso, has stated that romantic scenes in movies should be approached strictly as professional duties and not as opportunities for personal pleasure.

The actress made the remarks during an appearance on a TVC entertainment programme, where she addressed discussions within the movie industry surrounding dissatisfaction with onscreen kissing scenes.
Reacting to comments from some colleagues who claimed they had never experienced a “good kiss” while acting, Chisom described such expectations as inappropriate, stressing that film sets are professional spaces governed by discipline and personal boundaries.
“I don’t know if people kiss with their tongues, but I do not kiss with my tongue. My teeth are always closed during kissing scenes, so it is just the lips. But because it is an act, we have to make it believable,” she said.
The actress explained that her stance is shaped by personal boundaries and health concerns, noting that she is uncomfortable with the casual exchange of intimacy during productions.
“Some people kiss with their tongues, but I don’t think it is okay to swap saliva with every single person that you shoot with,” she added.
“Besides, it is a job. So whenever I see a colleague complaining that they didn’t get a good kiss, it is weird. You are not supposed to get a good kiss; it is a job.”
Her comments come amid ongoing conversations in Nollywood regarding professionalism, consent, and boundaries during the filming of intimate scenes.
Sophia Chisom first gained popularity online through her comedy skits and her well-known character “Soso.” However, the actress disclosed that she has moved beyond digital skit-making and does not intend to return to content creation.
According to her, her career has grown beyond social media comedy into wider creative ventures within the entertainment industry.
Earlier this month, Chisom and her creative partner, Emmanuel Kanaga, won the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards award for Best Digital Content Creator.
The pair received the recognition for their socially conscious project, Leave to Live, which focused on raising awareness about domestic abuse and societal violence.
