Suspected Aiye cult leader says killings left him unable to sleep

Emmanuel Nwokolo, a suspected leader of an Aiye Confraternity cell, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for alleged involvement in cult-related killings in Lagos State.
Nwokolo admitted to participating in the killing of four rival cult members. He told investigators that he joined the group after being promised a better life, but said the reality was disappointing.
“I was told my life would change for the better if I joined, but I have not seen any improvement,” he said.
He further confessed that the violent acts had taken a psychological toll on him. According to him, whenever his group carried out killings, he was unable to sleep for days due to fear and disturbing memories.
“I couldn’t sleep in my house after each killing. The memories brought fear and restlessness,” he said.
Police said Nwokolo and other suspects were linked to cult violence that terrorised residents of Ajangbadi, Shibiri, Ishashi, and Ilogbo communities.
Two other suspects, Israel Ayoola and Ebuka Nnamdi, also claimed they were deceived into joining cultism with promises of influence, protection, and social benefits.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, investigations revealed that the suspects were connected to several violent crimes in the area.
She added that a video recovered from one suspect’s phone allegedly showed killings carried out in Ajangbadi and nearby communities.
The suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Aiye Confraternity and admitted involvement in multiple murders and other criminal activities.
Police also recovered three firearms, including two locally made pistols and a revolver, as well as 13 live cartridges during the operation.
Authorities said investigations are still ongoing.
