Married Woman Exposed After Fake Kidnap Scam Ends in Hotel Romance in Delta

A married woman identified as Oluchi has been uncovered after she allegedly staged her own abduction and demanded a ransom of N50 million from her family.

The incident began when her relatives reported to the police that she had been kidnapped in the Ikpoba Hill area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area in Edo State. The case quickly gained public attention, with her children, including a daughter based in Canada, appealing for financial assistance while the supposed kidnappers reportedly reduced the ransom demand to N20 million.
However, police investigations took a different turn when tracking efforts led operatives to Delta State, where the woman was discovered in a hotel with her lover, confirming that the abduction had been staged.
A source within the police disclosed that officers traced the phone number linked to the man involved, which led them to a hotel in Ubiaroko, Delta State. The pair were found together in the hotel room. The husband was informed and initially expressed relief, but later learned the full details at the police station. Reports also indicate that the woman pleaded with her husband not to disclose the truth to their children.
In a video shared online, her daughter Anita, who resides in Canada, expressed shock and heartbreak over the incident, saying the situation had severely damaged the family’s reputation. She maintained that she acted out of desperation to secure her mother’s release and insisted she had no knowledge of the alleged plot.
Anita also revealed that no ransom was ultimately paid and that the funds raised would be refunded. She added that the family had involved the police from the beginning and only later discovered that the kidnapping had not been real, but part of a relationship-driven scheme involving her mother and the man she was found with.
The Harmony Ladies Club, of which Anita is a member, also issued a statement distancing itself from the incident. The group expressed disappointment, stating that members had acted in good faith by offering emotional and financial support during what they believed was a genuine abduction.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the development, adding that four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case as investigations continue.
