Court Orders Sowore Remanded in Kuje Over Cybercrime Case

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of activist, online publisher, and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Justice Mohammed Umar, in a brief ruling delivered on Monday, directed that Sowore be kept in custody pending the hearing and determination of his motion seeking a stay of the order revoking his bail and the bench warrant issued against him.
The court also dismissed Sowore’s application requesting the judge’s recusal from the matter over allegations of bias.
Following the ruling, Justice Umar adjourned the case until June 24 for the hearing of the motion for stay.
The application was filed by Sowore’s new counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika.
Justice Umar had earlier, on June 16, revoked the bail previously granted to Sowore after he failed to appear in court for trial.
The judge had also granted an oral application by counsel to the Department of State Services, Adeyinka Kehinde, SAN, and subsequently issued a bench warrant for Sowore’s arrest.
